This is a correspondence list, a temporary replacement until the Hands
for Knowledge website is up and running. None of these building sites
have been screened yet to ensure that the aim is education, instead
of free labour. It is up to you to contact the people and make sure
they are providing the kind of educational experience that you expect.
In the future, this job will be done by national representatives.
Please contact us to let us know how you went, and if you have any
suggestions about how to improve this list.
If you want your building project to be on the next list, send a description
to
<jomorandin@livinghouses.net>.
Please include:
Location of building site including the nearest large
town.
Dates for the project and work that will be undertaken.
How many people you can accommodate and teach.
Accommodation and other special conditions: eg, tent only,
vegetarian food, no shower etc.
Your special skills: eg, I can teach clay plastering
and natural painting.
Languages spoken.
Other interesting aspects of your project.
Contact details
Here is a reminder of the details:
Hands for Knowledge is an on-going scheme. It is about giving people
the chance to learn natural building skills on a real building site
with qualified or experienced teachers. Anyone wanting to host a building
site should know that the emphasis is on learning, students should
be gaining real skills and experience. It's education, not free labour.
Eventually there will be a website with more details and screening
processes, but for now, the basic guidelines are as follows:
Reliability
Approximately 2 weeks participation is required from the student.
All communication happens directly between the student and the building
project.
Learning
The building project is required to have skilled people on site to
ensure the quality of teaching.
The student does not need to have previous experience.
Economy
The student pays travel expenses, and is self-insured.
The site provides food and lodging.
I will also list relevant courses and other paid for events.
The deadline for the next list is the end of May, so that it is ready
for the Northern Hemisphere summer building season.
Please pass this email on to anyone you know who is interested in
learning how to build, or who has a building project where they can
teach others.
Happy Building!
